Anne McArthur and her husband and two children came to Wrattonbully in the SE of South Australia 27 years ago to commence a new life in farming after living on 12 acres near Adelaide, her husband a GP in a busy practice, Anne a physiotherapist. This life on 12 acres evolved into a longing for a 'proper' farm which would support them while still embracing the principles of self sufficiency. Their property, Gordons Swamp is on land first settled in 1843 by the Highland Scots, the Struan Robertsons. It wasn't long before this triggered an intense interest in the natural and cultural heritage of the district. Anne is researching material for a book on these Robertsons which is adding yet another dimension to an already varied and full life on their farm, managing and observing their heritage wetlands red gum swamp and sanctuary, writing a daily journal of farm 'happenings', reading voraciously and doing 'the books'.
